Hardware: PSP

PSP

Sony's PSP has been out for awhile and now is the best time to pick one up. The recent price drop brings the system down to $169.99 for the core model, which comes with almost nothing accept the system and charger. It would have been nice if it at least included a 32MB memory stick. Other than that the system itself has many cool features that take it beyond playing games.
It really is a multimedia device but of course it has it limitations. Besides playing games you can store and view photos, movies, music, and browse the web. It also has a feature that allows the user to subscribe to RSS feeds(enabling podcast downloads), which was included with one of the systems firmware updates. Movies played on the PSP have to be in Sony's AVC format or an MPEG-4 in order for them to work. Luckily there is a free program users can download called PSP Video 9, which converts any type of media format to one that will work with the PSP. Web browsing is slow but it gets the job done, and some of your favorite websites may not be displayed in the PSP browser, like Gamespot.com.
My biggest gripe with the PSP is its battery life which can range from 3 to 6 hours. I found myself having to charge my PSP 3 to 4 times a week. In terms of games the PSP does have a handful of great titles. Some of these include Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories, Grand Theft Auto Vice City Stories, Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops, Ace Combat X, and Puzzle Quest. With all of these features and a small but solid lineup of games I highly recommend the PSP.
