Folklore Demo Impressions
This demo really caught me by surprise. Let me start by saying that this demo is all in Japanese and I don't know Japanese so I can't tell you what the is story about. The game play on the other hand is something I can tell you about. First off the game starts off in a semi-modern setting but then out of now where your transported to a fantasy world with elves, ghosts, and all kinds of monsters.

Combat in the game is kinda like Pokemon. You start with a couple of little creatures who's souls were given to you and you use them to attack other monsters. As you defeat other enemies you can take their souls and then use their abilities in combat. Now when taking these souls you don't just press a button, instead you will be using the Sixaxis to make a pulling motion as if you are ripping the soul away from your defeated enemy.

Each enemy possesses a different type of attack some let you use a bubble shield to block attacks while other attacks can take out large groups of enemies. When I looked in the menu's I could see that you can level up the souls you catch making them learn new abilities. Leveling up is done by collecting souls, so every time you defeat an enemy and take their soul experience will be issued to the souls you have equipped. You can equip four souls at a time one for each of the shape buttons on the Sixaxis. Graphically the game looks stunning and is one of the best looking PS3 games I have seen. The game comes out October 2, so if you have a Japanese PSN account give it a try.
